On Friday 29th September WSM joined forces with Blacktower Financial Advisers for the inaugural Foster Denovo charity football tournament. Playing under the relatively unimaginative name of BFA & WSM Utd, the team competed against 11 other sides from a range of other companies in the financial service industry.
Despite some pessimistic views, BFA & WSM Utd got off to a fine start with a 3-0 victory – two goals coming from audit senior Ben White, and the third from Blacktower’s Tom Bostock. Following a defeat in the second game the team bounced back with draws against Aegon and Prudential (the eventual winners of the tournament). The final group game saw the WSM and Blacktower team win 2-1 to finish joint second in the group and progress to the quarterfinals. Sadly, despite a strong performance, BFA & WSM Utd lost 1-0 in the quarterfinal irrespective of some fine saves from Blacktower’s David Dodds, and worthy performances from WSM’s Ben Stanton, Ian Mitchell, Tom Blake and Nick Sissling.
The tournament raised over £700 for Foster Denovo’s chosen charities, Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and the Amani Junior Academy in Kenya. Given the success of the event Foster Denovo are looking to host a second tournament in the near future.
Amanda graduated from Brunel University, with a joint honours degree, achieving a BSC and BA degree in Leisure Management and Television and film studies. Amanda started her career in a customer service role before joining the hotel group Le Meridien as an Events coordinator, she was in the hotel industry for seven years and during her time won an award from a major international airline for her outstanding attitude and dedication to customer service, which she achieved while working for the Rezidor hotel group in the position of Airline Crew Manager. Amanda has over 20 years experience in customer relations and event management.
