THE CLOCKS TICKING – WHAT DO BUSINESSES NEED TO DO NOW!

Business owners and managers have shown remarkable resilience and innovation in dealing with the challenges of Covid-19 and the continual changes in government support, regulations and restrictions which the pandemic has brought in 2020.

However as the government slogan ACT NOW. CHECK CHANGE GO makes clear there remains the further challenge for businesses to be ready for the end of Brexit transition period before the year is out.

So what changes do businesses need to make before the new rules come in to effect from 1 January 2021? And do these have to be done now?

WSM have prepared briefings for all businesses on the new rules and the changes on which businesses need to ACT NOW, particularly those:

  • importing goods from the EU
  • exporting goods to the EU
  • moving goods to or from Northern Ireland
  • travelling to the EU
  • employing EU citizens in the UK

The briefings examine

  • What do I need to do about VAT?
  • What do I need to do about customs?
  • What do I need to for my staff?
  • What do I need to do for me and my family?

Each of our articles includes an action plan for businesses to ACT NOW which include:

  • Make sure you have an Economic Operators Registration and Identification (EORI) number starting with GB
  • Ensuring all EU employees have a right to live and work in the UK
  • Check your travel insurance, passport and driving documents

There are continuing trade talks between the UK and the EU with the possibility there may be a deal in place before the end of 2020. Whilst a successful outcome to the trade talks might provide a glimmer of light at the end of a dark year it will not change the need for businesses to ACT NOW as many of the actions required from businesses apply Deal or No Deal.

WSM will be pleased to advise you and your business on the changes and to answer any queries you may have – please contact us or email your query to Simon.Marsh@wsm.co.uk
