The government has announced a change to the extended Self Employed Income Support Scheme (SEISS) grant scheme. The SEISS was initially available for periods from March to October and will now be available for two further three month periods from November to April 2021. The extension will provide two taxable grants for each three month period. In a change from the original announcement made in October the grant has been increased to 80% of average monthly trading profits and the cap applied to the first grant has been increased to £7,500 in total.

Those who are eligible for the current SEISS – details are available here from our earlier article – do not need to have claimed a grant under the current scheme to claim under the grant extension scheme.
The qualifying period for the grant extension is between 1 November and 29 January 2021 and claims must be made no later than 29 January 2021.
HMRC will provide a taxable grant covering 80 percent of an average monthly trading profits, paid out in a single instalment covering 3 months worth of profits and capped at £7,500 in total.
The government have advised the level of the second grant, which will cover a three-month period from the start of February, will be reviewed and set in due course.

Claimants will need a Government Gateway account and will need to provide details of their Unique Taxpayer Reference, National Insurance Number and bank details.
