Coronavirus Business Interruption loan Scheme Extension And Changes

The Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CBILS) was introduced in March to provide loans of up to £5 million with an 80% government guarantee to UK-based businesses with turnover under £45 million. The CBILS application period was initially intended to close by 30 September and the initial proposed maximum loan facility term was six years.

The government has announced that as part of the Winter Economy Plan the time period for new CBILS applications has been extended to 31 January 2021.

The Winter Economy Plan has also extend the maximum term of a loan which a CBILS lender can offer from the initially proposed period of six years to the extended period of up to ten years.

There has been no change to the other key elements of the CBILS – details are available here from our earlier article – including:.

  • Government payment of lenders arrangement fees and first 12 months of interest
  • Government guarantee of 80% of the loan
  • Limits on security and personal guarantees
  • Eligibility criteria
  • Lenders assessments
  • Application process and documentation
