Headline Sponsors WSM Advisors were delighted to once again host the Merton Best Business Awards alongside Merton Council and the Merton Chamber of Commerce on the 26 September.
The annual awards gala event is always the most highly anticipated and highly regarded diary event of the year in the Merton Community, as it is here were the most successful, highly skilled, motivated and determined people gather together to celebrate one another’s success and to applaud the crowned winners and runners up of one of many categories including overall winner of the awards.
The red carpet was laid out this year in true Hollywood style together with the flashing bulbs of cameras from the paparazzi which set the stage for the most glamorous MBBA so far.
It was the first year that the awards gala was organised in house by Diana Sterk – CEO of the Merton Chamber and her team, so it was one of great anticipation but one which set a high standard for 2020!
In a poignant moment at the start of proceeding a special presentation for overall contribution to the Merton business community, named in honour of the irrepressible Reverend Doctor Andrew Wakefield, was presented to Sarah and Lucy, the widow and the daughter of the recipient Tony Kane – a touching opportunity for all of present to celebrate and say thanks in Tony’s memory.
Simon Marsh, partner of WSM Advisors, then took the mood of the evening in to one of celebration and congratulations as he presented the first award, for Best Enterprising Business, to ‘Belderbos Landscapes’ . Further awards were presented by the individual category sponsors with each award there was the opportunity for the runners up and the winners to take centre stage and allow the audience to celebrate their achievements. In a fitting climax to a highly successful evening, Simon presented the final award of the night to the Overall Winner of Merton Best Businesses ‘Gina Conway’ of ‘Gina Conway Aveda Spa and Salon’.

Amanda graduated from Brunel University, with a joint honours degree, achieving a BSC and BA degree in Leisure Management and Television and film studies. Amanda started her career in a customer service role before joining the hotel group Le Meridien as an Events coordinator, she was in the hotel industry for seven years and during her time won an award from a major international airline for her outstanding attitude and dedication to customer service, which she achieved while working for the Rezidor hotel group in the position of Airline Crew Manager. Amanda has over 20 years experience in customer relations and event management.
