WSM have held some fantastic Christmas party’s for their staff over the years, but the one we had this year surpassed all others! Our annual Christmas event took place on the 7th December at the most elegant of venues ‘Searceys’ in Knightsbridge, the theme was a ‘Murder Mystery’ set around the era of the 1920s Great Gatsby. Flapper dresses, feather boas, trilbys, long filtered cigarettes and even a toy tommy gun or two were donned adding to the already fabulous atmosphere.
The day started off with our managing partner Gavin Stebbing hosting his infamous annual pre party quiz which was based around music and got everyone in the party spirit, the rounds of music were ‘through the ages’ so all the WSM team had a chance of answering the questions, and as the first prize was a £25 Amazon voucher for each member of the winning team and bottles of Prosecco for the runners up, we were ready to battle it out to the beat of the music. It was then time to make our way to the fabulous venue that impressed each and everyone of the team from the moment they entered. A striking 8ft Christmas tree stood tall and beautifully decorated to welcome its visitors into its stunning hallway of the ellaborate venue. Having made our way up the elegant staircase and into the library we were welcomed with a glass of Prosecco and some canapes which were a delight to the taste buds and set us up nicely for the main meal. Winter soup or a beautiful double salmon roll, followed by a main of turkey and stuffing, or wild mushroom nut roast before finishing with dark chocolate orange cheese cake or raspberry mile fleur and of course coffee and mince pies were on the menu which was pre ordered and each course served with precision.
After everyone had digested their starters the performance from the events company ‘Chilli Sauce’ began. The drama unfolded with believable performaces from the actors which led to the unfortunate demise of the leading character Jack, it was then up to the teams that were named quite appropriatley after famous well known detectives such as: The Scooby Gang, The Sherlocks, The Nancy Drews, The Hardy Boys, The Colombos, The Morse Inspectors and The Jessica Fletchers to piece the puzzle together and come up with a culprit, the motive and what type of poison was used to do Jack in!
Each suspect then made their way around the tables and the detective teams had a chance to interview them to either illiminate them from their enquiries or add them to their list of suspects. After a while we were invited back in to the Library to see the culprit being unveiled and to witness some more dramatic events unfold. The Afternoon concluded with a prize for the winning team ‘The Hardy Boys’.
A truly fantastic WSM Christmas party and one which will be very hard to surpass next year. A big thank you to all the Partners in the firm for a fantastic event.
