On reviewing the accounts of our client, an expert in the field of aviation services and aircraft engine leasing, we found that they had spent a significant amount of money on software development. Following a discussion with the Group Engineering Director and the analysis of the company’s project, it became clearly evident that they had R&D qualifying activity. The client invested in the development of bespoke software that reduces the technological uncertainties in determining how long an aircraft engine will last in various operational environments. The aim of the project is to increase knowledge of how to predict the operational capability of aircraft engines.
In the end, the development of this specialised software utilised to resolve uncertainties on the operating capability of aircraft engines, fell within the guidelines of a qualifying R&D project.
WSM helped the company to successfully put together an R&D case file, resulting in savings of over 57% of the qualifying project costs.
