Charity Of The Year 2017

Having had our annual vote at WSM, we are very happy to announce that this year our chosen ‘Charity Of The Year’ 2017 is Shooting Star Chase. We are very excited to start our partnership with them and get involved with lots of fund raising activites. https://www.shootingstarchase.org.uk

A brief summary about the charity

Shooting Star Chase is a leading children’s hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families.

Whether lives are measured in days, weeks, months or years, they are there to make every moment count. They support families from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.

The bespoke support is free of charge to families and available 365 days a year. The care service includes short breaks at their two hospices (Shooting Star House in Hampton and Christopher’s in Guildford), Hospice at Home, day care, symptom management, end-of-life care, bereavement care and a comprehensive range of therapies and support groups for the whole family.

It costs £10 million a year just to maintain the current level of care. Around 10% of that income comes from government funding, so we rely on supporters’ generosity to keep the service running. What’s more, there are many more families desperate for this vital support, so it’s crucial we raise more funds to provide more care.

Some words from Shooting Star Chase

“The funds that you raise will give security to important parts of our work so that we’re able to continue to help the 700 families caring for a life-limited child.  We are proud to work with everyone at WSM and on behalf of all the nurses and carers at Shooting Star Chase and of the families supported by them, thank you so much”
