WSM’s charity of the year for 2016 has been the fantastic Willow Foundation, a charity that works with seriously ill young adults aged 16 to 40 to provide uplifting and unforgettable Special Days.
Willow Foundation was founded in 1999 by Bob Wilson, former Arsenal player, in memory of his daughter Anna who tragically died of cancer aged 31. According to the website, ‘Anna’s love of life and the enriching experiences of her own Special Days were the charity’s inspiration’.
The Special Days that Willow provides are often a person’s last chance to fulfil a dream, or simply a chance to return to normality for a short while during a dark and difficult time. They can also be a celebration that marks the end of a treatment, or a new beginning. Willow tailors these days to suit the person’s needs, and the result is always a unique and treasured experience.
WSM are proud to have raised over £4300 for the Willow Foundation this year. From large-scale events such as our Rugby Sevens and Netball tournament, to simply adding some spare change to the donation box, our staff and local community have given what they can to make a difference.
With Halloween and Christmas just around the corner, it is a chance to get into the spirit and raise even more money for a truly deserving cause. We hope that the money we have raised has helped Willow to bring joy into the lives of those who really need it.
