Wednesday evening saw a small group from WSM head out to watch Sophie Pelham from Morrisons perform with Airealism – circus performers all with normal day jobs. The event was taking place at the underground arts festival, the Vaults, underneath Waterloo Station. A little off the beaten path for most of us, we wondered through the graffiti tunnel at the back of the station to find ourselves in an atmospheric tunnel with different ‘theatres’ off to the side and a cavernous bar area at the end. After getting a drink, we excitedly waited to be let into our theatre, completely unsure as to what to expect!
The theme of show was Alice in Wonderland, and involved around 30 audience members (the ‘Alices’), go down the rabbit hole to meet the Mad Hatter, White Rabbit and the sleepy Dormouse who then told us of stories about the adventures in Wonderland. Sophie was the crazy duchess, who had the audience in laughter with her split personality performance, performing some incredible acrobatics on an aerial silk sling. Other highlights were the croquet flamingo character, who had a stunning routine leaving everyone awestruck and the impressive duo act from the Queen of Hearts's minions.
The evening was fantastic entertainment and something really different – thank you Sophie for inviting us!
Amanda graduated from Brunel University, with a joint honours degree, achieving a BSC and BA degree in Leisure Management and Television and film studies. Amanda started her career in a customer service role before joining the hotel group Le Meridien as an Events coordinator, she was in the hotel industry for seven years and during her time won an award from a major international airline for her outstanding attitude and dedication to customer service, which she achieved while working for the Rezidor hotel group in the position of Airline Crew Manager. Amanda has over 20 years experience in customer relations and event management.
