Wimbledon BookFest is a not for profit organisation, which is driven largely by the local community and run mainly by volunteers. This year has been the most successful to date, with 6 events completely selling out, including the evening with Alan Johnson. We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to sponsor this event, discussing Alan’s new book, ‘Please, Mister Postman’. This is the critically acclaimed sequel to the Sunday Times bestseller, ‘This Boy’.
The evening started with reception drinks in the William Morris tent for our 20 guests, where we were able to catch up whilst having drinks and canapés. The talk started from 8pm and we headed to our seats in the packed out main tent on Wimbledon Common, ready to be entertained. Toby Mundy, festival trustee, posed the questions to Alan, who had a fascinating childhood and regaled us with lots of entertaining snippets from both books creating enrapt silence interspersed with laughter from the spectators. The audience were then able to ask any questions and Alan answered them fully and eloquently, keeping it highly entertaining. The evening ended with further drinks, a chance to pick up a signed copy of Alan’s latest book and an opportunity for photographs.
