Wombledon Rounders 2015

The Wimbledon Super Mavericks rounders team were feeling pumped and raring to go on Friday afternoon, as they headed down to the Old Rutlishian sports ground in Morden Park, to defend their Wombledon Rounders title. After some issues the day before with not enough team members, everyone pulled together and we ended up with fifteen players who we were able to sub in and out during our games.

The day was muggy, with the threat of thunderstorms forecast, but as ever there was a great turn out with teams from twelve different Wimbledon based companies coming together to enjoy the BBQ and disco. We got off to a good start in our first game, getting some rounds in, however the other team proved too strong and we unfortunately lost the game by 6 points. The next game did not get any better; we were bringing home lots of points, but so was the other team. We managed to win our final game and then waited with baited breath to see if we had accumulated enough points to get through to the semi finals.

Sadly, we only managed third in our pool, but just at that point the heavens opened and we all happily sheltered in the club house, slightly relieved we no longer had to play! An early night beckoned, as many were due to be up bright and early helping out with the rugby tournament the following morning. Another fantastic local event; thank you to everyone who came down to take part and support, especially Annie Lee's daughters who impressed everyone with their rounders skills! Finally, very well done to the winners, VMG Heroes from Venture Marketing Group!
