Three course lunch at South Thames College

At the launch of Merton Best Business Awards, Kayley was lucky enough to win a voucher for a three-course lunch for four at the Taste restaurant at South Thames College. Needing an excuse to beat the Thursday blues, the girls set off this lunchtime for a delicious meal.

The restaurant is student-run, giving apprentices the chance to learn in a real world setting. From the girls who welcomed us on the door to the chefs in the kitchen, everyone involved is studying at the college. The trainee chefs are able to pick up the key skills they need, from butchery to expert finishing, and visitors get a brilliant service at a great value.

We were able to pick between the pan-fried wood pigeon with celeriac or the butternut squash risotto for starter; the griddled polenta with vegetables and tomato fondue or a lamb rump and shoulder with dauphinoise potatoes for main; and finally the apple tart with cinnamon ice cream or chocolate torte with elderflower mousse for desert. The quality of food and presentation was outstanding and overall the service was friendly. Definitely would like to go back and at £14.50 for 3 courses it is great value too!
