Tuesday the 25th of November marked an exciting evening for WSM, as the team headed up to The Brewery in London for the 2014 British Accountancy Awards. Dubbed 'the Oscars of the accounting world', WSM were privileged to have been shortlisted as finalists for two awards; Best Independent Firm in Greater London and the Community Award.

As we arrived at The Brewery, it was clear the event was not to be mocked, with over 200 individuals in formal dress from firms of all shapes and sizes. WSM took to a table in one of the far corners of the reception area, soaking up the nervous atmosphere amongst contestants apprehensive of what the evening held. After a few drinks to calm the nerves and a couple of Movember photos from the male members of staff, the team headed to the hall room where our table awaited.

The evening was introduced by Kevin Reed, Deputy Editor of Accountancy Age magazine, and following a speech and video from the evening's chosen charity, Chicks, the ever witty Sandi Toksvig took the stage to present the awards in each winning category.

With anticipation, the team awaited the arrival of the award categories, and as the screen showed the finalists in each category hopes rose briefly as the thought of an Oscar winning speech from one of the partners might follow. Alas, WSM were found wanting in both categories, but not disheartened by the lack of limelight, spirits continued in good form for the rest of the evening.
