Summer Event 2014

August 11, 2014

WSM had an early start Friday morning with a coach leaving Wimbledon at 7am and heading down to Portsmouth for an exciting day of sailing. The weather forecasts had been closely monitored in the run up with weather warnings issued for quantities of rain and wind expected however once we reached the port the morning was bright and clear, with the water as still as a mill pond – perfect for those not so keen sailors!

We boarded our boat, a huge tall ship, and were fitted with safety harnesses before a briefing of the day’s itinerary and safety onboard. We were then divided into 3 teams and participated in various activities such as setting the sails, helming the vessel and climbing up the mast as we sailed towards the Isle of Wight and back.

The day was a fantastic experience and we were well looked after on board with a bacon butty on arrival, filling jacket potatoes for lunch and an afternoon tea of jam and scones before leaving the boat. After an exciting day the team stayed for a couple for drinks at Gunwharf Quays before jumping on the coach back to Wimbledon where we tried to dodge the rain and enjoyed a few drinks in The Alex.
