Movember Report 2014

WETSHAVE STUBBLE MOUSTARSH

For the month of November, sixteen of WSM’s manliest men set out to change the face of men’s health through growing a moustache. Movember is a charity and global men’s health movement which puts a fun twist on a serious issue. By growing facial hair for the whole month of November, we can not only raise money but awareness of the health issues that men face; specifically prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s mental health issues.

On average in the UK, men die 4 years earlier than women; men are 14% more likely to develop cancer and 37% more likely to die from it. The reasons for this are numerous and complex but simple male stubbornness regarding mental or physical health plays a large part. A simple trip to the doctor for an annual scrutiny seems on the face of it, such an easy task, but one that many men to easily forget or put off.

The Movember Foundation aims to change this way of thinking by using the moustache as a catalyst, the idea is to bring about change and give men the opportunity and confidence to learn and talk about their health and take action when needed.

Team ‘Wetshave, Stubble, Moustarsh’ went from strength to strength throughout the month, with some brilliant moustaches, upper lip slugs, handlebars, pink handlebars, flavour savers, pencil line moustaches and soul patches. Everyone pulled together as a team and helped each other through the initial itchiness phase of the first week and once we made it past day seven, everyone seemed to fall in love with their facial hair and the fun side of Movember.

With some cracking photos being sent around, the donations started to fly in; notably when Simon Moustarsh dyed his handlebar pink. From here we never looked back, finishing up with an online total of £4,835 (£585 still pending) taking our grand total to £5,420. With lots of the big corporate firms putting in large teams, we were up against some stiff competition but we managed to finish as the top accountancy firm in the UK, beating off the likes of PWC and Deloitte with ease and even managed to pip Coca-Cola at the end to finish up 62nd in the UK.

A brilliant effort from all the team, with notable mentions to Gavin, Simon and Peter who all raised substantial amounts of money.

A big thank you to everyone that donated and if you still haven't you can do so here!
