On Friday 17th May, we at WSM were delighted to be invited to the launch of the Merton Community Fund at the Terrace in Wimbledon Town Centre. Welcomed by canapés and a glass of wine, we enjoyed a delightful event with networking and information about future plans for the fund.
Paul Windsor had the opportunity to meet the newly appointed Deputy Mayor of Merton (see pictured above) followed by speeches by Lola Barrett, Diana Sterck and Ray Kinsella, each sharing their own involvement with the fund. The event drew to a close with an auction of tickets to the David Bowie exhibition at the V&A Museum, of which, proceeds went to the Merton Community Fund. Andrew Wakefield won the auction after a battle with Irene Strank from Paul Strank Roofing.
The Merton Community Fund has been set up by the Merton Partnership, and managed by Merton Voluntary Service Council (MVSC), to support voluntary groups and charities within the borough to improve the lives of local people. Local charities will be able to apply for funding to support their project activities. Initial priorities will be children and young people, health and fitness, the environment, hardship and disability.
At WSM, we are chuffed to have a 'Role of Honour' within Merton Means Business and we are looking forward to getting involved with many more fundraising and local events to support MVSC and the fund. To view our involvements, keep your eyes peeled on our news page and follow us on twitter.
