The Merton Best Business Awards are back! Last night saw the official launch of the most exciting business awards in London at South Thames College. Businesses from across the borough took the opportunity find out how the awards can benefit their business and to meet with past winners and the awards sponsors.

WSM, headline sponsors of the 2016 Awards, attended the launch to explain what a great platform it provides for Merton businesses and entrepreneurs to showcase their ingenuity, business acumen and passion.

The Taste Restaurant treated over 100 attendees to gourmet canapés created by the students and Wimbledon Brewery Co provided more treats from their range of delicious craft beers.

Diana Sterck from Merton Chamber of Commerce announced the awards and the changes introduced this year, including new categories and online entry, to ensure every business has the chance to show their excellence and award winning ways. Next, Sue Rimmer, CEO of South Thames College, highlighted the awards are for individuals as well as businesses, including an Apprentice of the Year award being particularly notable in this National Apprentice week.

WSM’s Simon Marsh provided some keynotes on the challenges and opportunities facing businesses – from George’s budget to Brexit, and beyond to Crossrail 2 – confident the 2016 Best Business Awards will see Merton businesses show how they thrive on the challenge that change can bring.
