Merton Best Business Awards 2014
Friday night saw the return of the annual business awards; a great excuse for the local businesses to get glammed up and head to the beautiful All England Tennis Club to celebrate some fantastic achievements. We were lucky to have the brilliant Layla Anna-Lee, the voice of the London 2012 Olympic games, to host the evening’s proceedings and after a champagne reception and photos, around 250 people settled down to dinner in the second floor dining room in the centre court complex.
This year’s awards put much more emphasis on the rising stars in the borough with a new category ‘Best Young Business Person of the Year’ sponsored by South Thames College, which went to Tamykha Patterson. Diana Sterk, Merton Chamber of Commerce CEO also gave recognition to some of the young apprentices benefiting from the chamber's 'Take One' campaign, during her welcome speech.
As headline sponsors, we were delighted to be involved with such a great event and Simon Marsh was proud to conclude the awards by presenting the ‘Overall Business of the Year’ to New Wimbledon Theatre, who has been bringing performing arts (as well as commercial success) to the heart of the borough for over 100 years.
The evening ended with some crazy shapes being pulled on the dance floor by Gavin to the sounds of The Essentials, a youth band from South Thames College and the more hard core revellers headed on to Cannizaro House, winners of 'Wimbledon Village Business of the Year', for the after party.
