Merton Best Business Awards 2013

Awards nights can be a bit of an endurance. Lots of clapping and hiding of real feelings as the runners up have to button their lips and smile sweetly. As lead sponsor to this year's borough business awards, the WSM contingent was able to enter into the spirit without fear of rejection and sufficiently elevated to avoid any awkward moments as clients missed the top spots in the new 'localised' award categories.

Our host, Stephen Rhodes, needed all of his skills honed in the days of pirate radio to keep control over the 250 lively dinner jacked guests, although he was as surprised as everyone when the esteemed editor of Time & Leisure, Wimbledon's glossy gossip magazine, lost his envelopes amongst the detritus of the previous speakers and then proceeded to mix the winner of the 'Best Creative Sector' with its second place rival!

John Simpson, Chairman of White Light took the Merton Council special award for his support to the local community over his long career as one of Merton's longest standing employers and our very own Simon Marsh concluded the proceedings with a presentation to Merco Medical Staffing who took top honours as overall winners on the night.

There is no doubt that the new format and refreshed categories introduced by Merton Chamber of Commerce this year for the first time gave a much greater sense of energy and inclusion around the splendid setting of the All England Club – it really was an awards ceremony celebrating success in Merton and you can find all the category winners at www.mertonbestbusiness.co.uk along with information about entry into next year's prestigious event.
