Expo Real 2013

When the suits arrive on the Croisette in Cannes, it is blindingly obvious that the real estate industry has come to town, but the 38,000 participants at EXPO REAL seem to slip off the U2 metro service and into the giant Messe exhibition centre as if they are an everyday part of Munich’s commuter life.

In addition to the usual extravagant exhibitor stands from regions across Europe seeking development capital there is, this year, vibrancy from the agency sector which seems to be emerging from its recent years of retraction and introspection. Savills appear to have sponsored every spare bit of meeting space with its bright yellow seats scattered in lounge areas across all 6 exhibition halls and WSM Client Union Investment dominate hall B2 with a bold modern stand designed to accommodate its 250 employees meeting and greeting visitors from dawn to dusk.

Coming to this industry gathering allows us to maintain good relationships with our existing clients as well as meeting new contacts and being seen to be involved with the industry by our intermediary introducers. But it is so much more than this – it provides a real opportunity to be stimulated by the cutting edge innovations and thinking that is going on in the sector.

Of course it’s not all work. Nothing beats the opportunity of visiting a vibrant and successful European city and new acquaintances and old friendships are made and renewed. It also helps that the city is geared up following Ocktoberfest's influx of 6m visitors all enjoying the finer points of the brewing industry. Another round of Weissbeer's for the team please!
