Business Workshop 3: Intellectual Property

After much preparation, the morning of our third business workshop with Mundays dawned clear and sunny at The Cobham Curve Rugby Club.  The event was a success with around 30 guests sitting down to a delicious breakfast buffet; with fresh fruit kebabs and a variety of pastries as well as tea, coffee and juice.

After an initial period of networking the event was introduced by chair person Wendy Patterson, partner at WSM.  Our guest speaker Martin Colyer from Fintech Consult came on stage to discuss in an engaging presentation, intellectual property using his own experiences of working at Trigold mortgaging company; finding out how important protecting your brand is; and the results in the final sale.

The panel of experts were then introduced and using the same scenario of Bloomers Bakery as the previous workshops they discussed various issues.  On the panel were Simon Marsh championing Research and Development Tax Credits; Ben Lee discussing the patent box and EIS Schemes; and James O’Flinn from Mundays and Rowena Price from Gill Jennings & Every, discussing the law behind patenting and trademarks.  The panel were also joined by Martin, who was able to use his own personal experiences to support what the experts were saying and bring a different angle to the discussion.  After the panel there was time for questions from the floor and then the panel members stayed around for half an hour to answer any further questions.

Our final business workshop on Selling Your Business will be taking place on the 25th September, don’t miss out – reserve you place today by emailing seminars@wsm.co.uk.
