After months of planning, the day finally arrived for our interactive breakfast business workshop, jointly hosted with Mundays LLP!

Our “Building Your Business – how solid are your foundations?” seminar was the first in a series of four highly interactive seminars being held throughout 2014. The seminar series deals with the lifecycle of a successful business, using an innovative case study format following the fortunes of a business from inception and growth, to succession planning and sale.

We were very fortunate to have Kirit Patel MBE, one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the pharmaceutical industry, as our guest speaker. Kirit is the CEO of Day Lewis plc, Europe's largest family-owned pharmacy chain. For more than three decades, Day Lewis plc has grown from two pharmacies to a chain of over 200 and in 2005 Kirit received an MBE in recognition of his services to the industry.

The seminar was chaired by Val Toon, Managing Partner at Mundays LLP, whose opening speech was followed by an informative and inspirational talk from Kirit about his childhood and education leading on to when he co-founded Day Lewis plc and the struggles that he has overcome. Kirit then joined our panel of professional advisors consisting of one of our partners, Simon Marsh and Phil Walton, Sofia Syed and Graham Coy from Mundays LLP. Neale Andrews, from Mundays LLP, played the part of Peter, one of the two owners who have recently acquired the bakery featured in our case study. Peter led a meeting with the bakery’s professional advisors covering a range of key topics that need to be considered following an acquisition of a business, including identifying the correct status of staff, employment and pre-nuptial agreements and also dealing with shares for spouses.

Overall, the morning was a great success with around 50 people in attendance. Don’t miss our next seminar “Maximising Your Business” to be held at The Cobham Curve, Cobham Rugby Club on 2nd April. See our event page for more information about the second seminar and how to reserve your place.
