10K Charity Run

Since it has been a very long time since 1) the weather has been nice enough to be outside, and 2) I have run at all, I was a little apprehensive about taking part in our WSM team run this weekend.

It was a 10k (walkable if struggling) and on Wimbledon Common (not far to get there), but the thought of dragging myself from my warm bed and out into the fresh air amongst several keen and much more able runners was not a welcome one, especially after a late Saturday night.

However, I awoke to the glorious sunshine and mild temperatures. I joined my team mates in our STEM4 t-shirts and we spent the proceeding hour working our way around the wildlife on the Common. Unfortunately, no Wombles made an appearance. The first 2k was an uphill struggle but after that, we all successfully managed to complete the course, no dragging required, and within a decent time frame! Ben Stanton stole the show and beat us all to the finish line in a brilliant 40 minutes.

This was the first of five runs that WSM have pledged to run in order to raise funds for STEM4, a local charity, set up to improve teenage mental health by stemming commonly occurring mental health issues at an early stage. We would love it if you could help us out by sponsoring us for our efforts. Any money raised is going to a well-deserved and much-needed cause so please visit our Virgin Giving Page.
