The Merton Best Business Awards 2017
Wednesday 27th September marked the 5th annual event– where businesses in the borough are celebrated for their continual hard work, success and contribution to the community and this year was no different.
As “Team WSM” arrived at the venue looking elegantly attired and ready for the evenings celebrations, we were greeted with a lovely champagne reception and had a chance to meet new faces and catch up with ones that they already new as well as the organisers and finalists of the night.
After having a chance to mingle, we made our way through to the dining area which was beautifully set up with elegant tables, decorated with long stem flowers placed in the centre of each of them. Diane Sterck waited for everyone to be seated before starting the evening with a touching tribute to Andrew Wakefield who sadly passed away last October. An award was created in his honour and first to receive it was the editor of Darling magazine Karine Torr.
Speeches continued as our very own Simon Marsh stepped up on stage to deliver his introduction to the night and start the proceedings.
The three course dinner was presented beautifully with a main of salmon, while the entertainment was provided by three students at South Thames College who performed ‘A Capella’ and had the room filled with a joyous atmosphere.
The First of the awards was for best new business which went to The Orchard Day Nursey, with Bear and Pine coming runner up. Sahaj Kothari for Make in 3D took home the award for Entrepreneur of the year while the Harnham Group won the best enterprising business. Other awards were presented throughout the night until the final one went to the overall winner, Orchard day Nursery.
The 260 guests that filled the Queens building at the Epsom Downs Race Course then had a chance to congratulate the winners and runners up and take to social media as they had done throughout the night to post photos of their memorable evening.
A big thank you to Diana Sterck, Caroline Cooke and Georgia Green for organising such a successful and enjoyable event, we will most certainly look forward to the MBBA 2018.
