Our History

Founded by Fred Stebbing as an independent firm in the early 1980’s in Wimbledon, South West London; Stebbing & Associates grew rapidly when Paul Windsor, Gavin Stebbing and Sharon Whittle joined Freddie to expand the client base and introduce new expertise and disciplines into the practice. When Freddie retired and Sharon moved to Cambridge in the late 80’s, Paul and Gavin who had trained at KPMG and BDO were joined by Simon Marsh, a fellow Cambridge friend who had trained at Deloitte. The practice changed its name to Windsor Stebbing Marsh.

Specialist areas developed from 1990 onwards, with Real Estate, Private Clients and Business Advisory services all growing rapidly, as teams developed strong client loyalty built upon our sector knowledge and expertise. David Dunbar joined the partnership when he merged his client base at the end of the 90’s and the partnership name was abbreviated to WSM.

In 1995, WSM was recognised as an “Investor in People” and in 2000, the firm moved to new offices in Pinnacle House. In 2006, the firm was first shortlisted in the Accountancy Age Awards as Small Firm of the Year. Since then, it has been a finalist in the national Taxation Awards, Accountancy Employer of the Year Awards and nominated as Independent Firm of the Year in the British Accountancy Awards.

Growth continued throughout the first decade of the new century and the partnership was expanded to include Wendy Patterson, and subsequently, Andrew Bithray. In 2015, the firm moved to larger offices at Connect House to accommodate the additional staff, following the acquisition of local firm, Wilkinson Latham. Later that year, the firm undertook its largest merger with long established Kingston firm, Marks Bloom; expanding the private client and corporate client base and extending our services into Insolvency.

Later in the same year, the firm entered into a joint venture with Jersey based administration specialists Crestbridge, and moved the property tax team into a new separate office in London’s West End.

Today, the firm has a dozen specialist client directors, each servicing a growing portfolio of regional, national and international clients from its three office locations.
